Some Older MLB Hitters Have Great Value This Summer

If you play in a fantasy baseball site, you need to pay attention to what is going on in the league. Here's what you need to know if you are enrolled in a fantasy baseball site.

Raul Ibanez, Seattle Mariners

Age: 41

Average Yahoo! draft position: 220.6

2013 rank: 74

At the All-Star break, Ibanez has already equaled his third-highest season HR total with 24, fifth-best in MLB. No player his age has ever hit 30 HR in a season.Though Ibanez hit 19 HR in 2012 with the Yankees, he hit 14 at homer-happy Yankee Stadium and all 19 against righthanders. But in 2013, the lefthanded Ibanez has hit eight of his HR against lefthanders and has a higher OPS against lefties than righties. Ibanez has also hit 16 of his HR in Seattle.

Michael Cuddyer, Colorado Rockies

Age: 34

ADP: 205

2013 rank: 34

In 2012, Cuddyer's first season in Colorado, he hit 12 HR with 50 RBI in 292 AB with a .264 BA in the first half. In the first half of 2013, Cuddyer had 15 HR and 52 RBI in 280 AB, but this time his BA was .329. Cuddyer is hitting .361 in Colorado and .301 on the road. Cuddyer missed much of the second half of 2012 with an oblique injury. This season, he was on the DL in May with neck problems. NL Home Run Derby captain David Wright selected Cuddyer, a childhood friend, for the team.

David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox

Age: 37

ADP 114.3

2013 rank: 25

After playing just 90 games in 2012 before going down for the season with an Achilles injury in mid-July, and missing the first 15 games of 2013 while continuing to recover, Ortiz is having a great year, and is a good pickup if you play in a fantasy baseball site. He is hitting .317 (fourth-best in the AL) with 19 HR and 65 RBI (tied for seventh-best in the AL). Ortiz' 2013 first-half numbers are similar to his 2012 first half, when he hit .312 with 22 HR and 57 RBI. His 1.008 OPS is actually down from 2012's 1.026, but is third-best in MLB behind only Miguel Cabrera and Chris Davis. Ortiz was named to the All-Star team for the ninth time in ten seasons.

Carlos Beltran, St. Louis Cardinals

Age: 36

ADP: 101

2013 rank: 38

After hitting .269 with 32 HR and 97 RBI in his first season in St. Louis in 2012, Beltran is on pace for an even better season, hitting .309 with 19 HR and 53 RBI. After missing lots of time in 2009 and 2010, Beltran is on pace for his third straight season playing more than 140 games. Beltran was voted by the fans to start the All-Star Game.

Did you know?

41-year-old Raul Ibanez had 24 HR at the All-Star break. No player 41 or older has ever hit 30 HR in a season.
